BLYTHE LIGGINS ADVISES ASA ON NEW WAREHOUSE

21/10/2011

Leamington law firm Blythe Liggins has successfully handled the purchase of a warehouse for the ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) in Loughborough to house the certificates and badges for its renowned Kellogg’s Awards scheme.
Commercial solicitor Nick Watts, who handled the purchase, is also advising on the relocation of the distribution operation from Redditch to Loughborough, where the ASA is based.
“The ASA and British Swimming, which currently employ around 380 staff, relocated to the £15 million SportPark at Loughborough University in April last year,” said Mr Watts. “The purchase of the warehouse unit further consolidates the ASA’s operations and activities in the town.
“The certificates and badges are awarded to young people as part of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming programme, powered by British Gas, and these form part of the two million plus items that are distributed by the ASA per year,” said Mr Watts.
Jane Nickerson, chief operating officer of the ASA, said: “The expansion of our operations in Loughborough further cements our position as a major employer in the town. This commitment is demonstrated by the fact we have already purchased the unit before selling on our existing plant in Redditch.”
Tim Garfield, deputy director of sport at Loughborough University, said: “One of the ambitions of the SportPark project was to build on Loughborough’s reputation of being at the heart of sport. Attracting the ASA into SportPark was a key milestone for the project. This latest expansion is not only good for the town, but also matches the University’s ambitions for SportPark.”
SportPark is a development that opened its doors in January last year. It is home to many of the country's top sports governing bodies and national sports organisations, including the ASA and British Swimming.
